Pretend there is a galaxy out there where you
are not in the center, but rather the nearest living thing to it.
Imagine there are other living things farther out, but only farther out
because they couldn’t survive any closer to the center.
What is out compared to in?
Don’t think too hard on this one. Just let it happen.
Let it happen.
Let it happen…
Now do something
Anything
Do you feel it now, what it’s like to turn a key and let the lock come loose while someone else opens the door which the wind blows shut while clouds stir—are stirred—and umbrellas open and a hand reaches out and pulls you under just before the rain falls and cars slide just a fraction of a second farther than they used to so one hits another and two complete strangers make the same sad first impression and a man with a truck and a hook gets paid along with a man with a suit and a desk so that two women can leave their kids who pronounce their R’s like W’s under the caring watch of a teenage girl whose boyfriend sneaks in after the kids have gone to sleep so that he may slide his finger beneath her clothes.
Do you feel it now, what it’s like to be just far enough from the center
to be a part of everything that happens around it?
